We had a big month in May! We had a ton of entries coming in from more than fifty different submitters–as you know, whenever that happens our prizes jump from $100 per winner to $500 per winner! So congrats are in order for the winners of our May cycle. Thanks are also in order–first to everyone who submitted and made it one of our best months, but especially to our judges for this month, Andrew and Maria from Electrogent. Their picks are bright, bold, and totally on point. Be sure to check out Andrew on Twitter, Maria on Twitter, or simply head over to their Facebook page. But first, on to the winners!
1. “As the only male winner, ‘acollectedgentleman’ is getting it done this month. He ventured into a territory that Andrew would never personally go, but style is about having the confidence to rock what your own look, and he certainly knows what works for him. An immaculate-white-shoe thumbs up.”
2. “Our second winner, Sarah, knows how to juxtapose like a boss. That busy floral shirt with the solid black high-waisted shorts are a favorite of Maria. Throw it together with some funky shades, a long necklace, and a simple bracelet for a perfectly different high five.”
3. “The third winner, Phoebe V., is going all contrast with this black, white, and red look. Paired with her porcelain skin, the red pops of color are just enough to keep things interesting. What’s black, white, and red spotted? A Maria-approved look.”
4. “Our fourth winner is bold—whoops, not that kind of bold. NeShanta is matching polka dots with polka dots! Amazing. You clearly need confidence to pull something like this together, and she has it in spades. Pair those spots with a fantastic red clutch and bam—you have a winning look.”
5. “Last, but certainly not least, is Shelby. Of all the entrants, she took the most risk–and it paid off. Sticking with mostly primary colors red and blue, Shelby put together a bright look without burning out any retinas. Maria loves her ability to rock the bold colors, and that uniqueness makes her a winner.”

Here’s another one of my transformations. This mumu was $5.99 at Goodwill, but it was half off, so I only had to pay $3.00. Forgive me for not wearing shoes.
Total: $3.00

I’m not one to wear “sets”, but while thrifting in Illinois, I had to pick up this blue one. For less than $5, I’d say it was a good pick!
Top & Pants: Thrifted ($4.50) Salvation Army, Illinois
Sandals: Target
Jewelry: Thrifted, 2nd Avenue
Purse: Nic’s Picks

I saw this hideous dress at Goodwill and thought, “I’m going to make this not entirely hideous,” and this is how it turned out. Mission: Accomplished
Dress: $0.99 at Goodwill Bargain Barn (believe it)
Shoes: $0.99 at Goodwill Bargain Barn
Total: $1.98

I’m beating the heat this summer by pairing light weight skirts and tops in new ways!
This vintage skirt was thrifted for a mere $2 and the shoes for $1.50! Purple top is from Target and earrings, a gift from a friend!

This is an outfit I wore for a casual night out with my girlfriends. My friend decided that she wanted an impromptu photo shoot in the sub shop and I said why not. I love this look because it’s so comfortable and really reflects the trend of nautical stripes and high waisted cut off shorts that is so popular right now!
Outfit:
Ann Taylor nautical striped top: North Carolina Goodwill (3.29)
Vintage Wrangler high waisted, cut off denim shorts: North Carolina Goodwill (3.29)
Brown Wedges: North Carolina Goodwill (3.99)
Faux Pearl Earrings: Gifted (free)
La Mer wrist watch: Gifted (free)
Total cost: $10.57
